Gretchen Andrews is the Librarian IV, Head of Youth Services for Hilo Public Library. She oversees both the children's and young adult departments.
As the head of Youth Services, she serves as the Big Island’s outreach librarian. Her belief that cultivating relationships with the community is a large part of any library’s program success. Designing programs that incorporate early literacy and caregiver involvement is one of her primary goals to serve the community.
Hailing from the East Coast, she moved to the Big Island of Hawaii to pursue her career as a librarian. Falling in love with reading at a young age, she will tell you Judy Blume is her favorite author from childhood.
She coaches the Hilo Library Helehelu Quiz Bowl team, participates on the Nene Award Committee, HSPLS Reading Challenge Committee and is a member of HLA.
Gretchen is also a registered yoga instructor and in her free time she can be found practicing yoga, reading, or spending time with her dogs.
